I recently got the stereo/radio from a GSL/SE, the one with the digital read out. I used it to replace the old dial type that came in my 84 GS. The old one sounds good, but I just liked the look of the digital one. I have also previously added an equalizer, both were an easy install, just plug and play.

My problem is, when I replace the old dial one with the old digital one, the sound goes from good, to poor. It sounds like I have blown speakers, the bass sounds terrible. Also, it is not as loud. It has to be the stereo, because I put it in, sounds bad, took it out and replaced with original dial one, sounds good, put digital back in, sounds bad.

No matter how much I play with the eq, it does not seem to help.


Any suggestion?

 

Whats the channel output for each? it sounds like the new one is less watts...

 

I dont really know. The new one should be the same, or better. It is the upgrade that came in the GSL and SE models.

 

was the harness direct plug in?

 

yes, everything plugged right up. From what I understand, all FB's were wired for the upgraded stereo units due to it being an option on all models.
