Engine Bay painting

Hello All, i am going to change my FD from VR to a silver color (i just think silver FD's look soooo bangable), and was curious, how much do shops usually charge to paint the enginebay?

I know its quite cluttered, and not much room for error, and was wondering has anyone changed the car color and had the engine by painted? If so, how much did you pay? If you did it yourself, how long did it take? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well the shop is going to have to pull your entire motot...so you better hope they know how to do it and be able to put it back in. Im not sure about cost on doing it but i know its not cheap. Also, you could just take out a lot of things in the way of the painted area, tape of the rest and just spray paint it flat black...most people do this and u cant really ever tell. GL man.

I'm getting mine painted now. I'm swithing from Montego to Innocent blue. They are charging me $800 to cut in all the extra stuff ie...doorsills,hatch area, engine bay.
I think thats a pretty fair price.

You don't need to pull the motor unless your trying to paint areas that know one will ever see. All the stuff in the way in the inner fender walls can be taken loose and moved in toward the engine out of the way. The brakelines on the firewall even can be moved about 6"
They can tape up the rest and get just about everypart you would see. I guess that just depends on how picky you are. I personally don't care what color the car is under the ABS do you ?

I want to paint my bay while I have my engine out. I dont really want to move the car around, have it sit at a shop, or pay a few hundred bucks. Anyone know If I can use a decent spray type paint? What prepping would I need to do? Id assume sanding and priming. Any info is appreciated. The car is black, and im not changing it, so I dont think much could get in the way of this sub-project
