Honestly man, I wouldn't put those in my FD. I think that when it comes to something as integral as driver comfort and safety, it's best to purchase brand name.
I was looking for seats as my R1 driver's seat was getting a little worn and I explored all the different options, and ended up getting a set of pristine low mileage R2 seats for sale locally and am very happy with them

I am with GoodFella on this one. I have bought some *cheap* racing seats off ebay in the past. It wasnt really a good idea. I mean, they were OK... But I refuse to put anything that is just "ok" or "it will get the job done" on my FD. In the long run yeah it will cost more money, but I think you will be happier in the long run if you just try and do things right the first time... If you want good racing seats I would go with Sparco, Bride, or something of the like with an excellent reputation and build quality.
Do you really want to trust your life to a cheaply made imitation? Is saving a few hundred dollars worth risking your life? A seat is an intergral part of the safety system of the car, it's not just a couch to sit your butt on, it'll support you in a collision, you don't want it coming apart in a collision, that'd be very bad.
kind of cracks me up when people start with the life threatening statements, yes they probably are poor quality but even the stock seats will crack if the impact is harsh enough. want something that is life saving? go with a good quality solid bucket CF racing seat with reinforcement bolts in the chassis.
they would probably do the job fine but in a $10k+ car i would at least show it some respect and put in some of the cheaper name brand seats like Corbeau or better.
you guys put a little too much faith in your stock seats, i have seen them twist up like a pretzel in a collision, i doubt even these knockoffs would do worse. in fact i have already worked on FDs where the recliner brace was completely cracked through already and the only thing holding the seat up was the storage bins...if you think the stock seats will save your butt, THINK AGAIN!
anything reclinable will have a margin for safety, you just have to weigh the options whether comfort is more what you want than safety and vice versa. personally i opted for comfort as most people do. if someone rearends you at 50+MPH any reclinable seat is going to break depending on your weight, if your neck doesn't snap anyways that is..

my buddy bought those same ones for his house, i have to say they took quite a beating, they lasted a while and when they started to wear down he reupholstered them himself, he cut some of the padding and made it a little thinner and was going to give them to me, but someone stole them, blah... oh well, i think i am going to have him reupholster my r1 seats, they are wearing down

I'm surprised they're using the Mazdaspeed name. I would think that's a trademarked name.
As for the safety of the seats, I dunno - the belts are attached at the rails and door pillar, so it's not like it needs to support the impact of an accident. But it is kinda silly to buy a cheap seat in general.

i had a friend that had a twin turbo stealth. somewhere around 500 awhp. he went super expensive on all of his power mods, but bought ebay seats. he was driving and the price that reclines the seat broke.....seat fell back, he hit wall.....totalled car...nuff said. luckly he was ok.
There's TONS of fake stuff on eBay, lots of people are making cheap copies of stuff and selling it with the real companies name and logo on it. What they're doing is illegal, but there's so many of them that the real companies can't always go after them all right away. Ebay shouldn't be letting this go on, but they can't actively police everything, they need your help in spotting fraud. The best thing you can do is to report them to the eBay fraud center, and they'll look into it and maybe suspend the sellers accounts.
I remember seeing a comparison in a magazine, comparing real to fake. The fake stuff was all pretty crappy compared to the real stuff, inferior materials, inferior construction, inferior quality, and so on. They got an oil pan that was full of sand from the casting process and I beleive it was also porous, meaning the oil would seap through.

For the comment regarding stock seats, you have to understand that there is A LOT of money invested by car companies to test these seats in crash tests. Sure it may just meet the minimum government requirement, but it still meets them - if not the vehicle with the seat could not be sold. Today, there are even more minimum specs manufacturer's for OEM have to meet. This is not from "my friend's friend told me" information - I work for a major car company, so we see this stuff all the time.
Will eBay seats work? maybe, but you cant sit there and compare SAFETY of an eBay seat to OEM (or other similarly certified/tested seats)... its like comparing poop to chocolate.

^ Amen brother. Even if the seat is old, it was at least safe at some point and I'll trust it more than a $100 piece of eBay crap.
That's why when it comes time for me to get different seats they'll be FIA certified and mounted in accordance with FIA specs. Those seats have been proven to be safe in a variety of different crash tests. Reclining seats cannot be FIA certified by the way, it's only for fixed back seats.
