Do NOT buy blaupunkt.

Their products are peices of ****, i thought they were good when i got them, and also convinced a few friends to go the blaupunkt route. but 3 years of use and these things have completely fallen apart.

first problem was the rotary dial to adjust volume got so shitty that you have to push in on it to change the volume.

second problem is overheating, about about 20 minutes of play at high volume the reciever will start to distort heavily and eventually cut out.

third problem that keeps getting worse is when i change to a preset station it will hang for a minute and say searching before it starts playing the music.

fourth the cd player in the head unit stopped functioning. but i didnt care too much cause i had the 5 disk in dash changer too.

fifth the 5 disk in dash changer stopped working on sunday.

******* peice of **** company. The stuff I have isnt cheap either, the changer was over 200$ and the head unit was around 250. Tell your friends.

fwiw, my friends blaupunkt is having the same problems and some others, that mine went though… and its a different model.

Years ago Blaupunkt made great equipment. Now they are just a name that doesn't do anything steller compared to what they used to. Same goes for Alpine and probably a dozen other people I could think of.

Knock on wood, I have had a unit in both cars for about 3 1/2 years and have had great luck and sound out of them both, I am not defending them and am sorry you had bad luck, just wanted to add that mine are doing OK.

Personally I find it hard to find good quality stuff. Pheonix Gold and Crossfire remain my choice for amps. Speakers of any time for me needs to be Boston Acoustic or Alpine (their low quality stuff makes me sick). For Decks I'm becoming partial to the new Sony.Wiring is Rockford. Most others I avoid.

well i just got off the phone with their warrenty dept, and they woudlent do anything for me, nevermind the expensive *** changer and headunit being bought from their AUTHORIZED dealers as listed on their website.

I dont know anything about their company base, but customer service obviously isnt in their agenda.

My girlfriend has a blaupunkt deck in her car for a little less than 2 years. It is now starting to fall apart. We have trouble getting cd's to play and it makes a loud noise when the disk is spinning.

first cd player i ever had was a pioneer, it was OLD, my dad had it laying around after he sold his stereo shop and said i could have it. The thing was built in 1992 IIRC, well i used it up until 2002, and it played almost any cd i could throw in it, scratched to hell, not finalized, anything! Then screen broke (no big deal, it was a ghetto 8 digit led readout, turned all orange when it broke), and then the internal amp went, but i continued to use it for about another year with an external amp. I still have it, im sure it would work great, but i upgraded to a nicer model pioneer, and i must say, i will probably never buy anything else, i never have had a problem with it, it plays some pretty damaged cds, one that my friends alpines, sony's and especially clarions wont play. So im pioneer all the way when it comes to head units. My dad used to deal blaupunkt and said they were pretty much sony internals with a different brand stamped on the faceplate, sounds like they dont do that anymore.

That sucks....

I have a buddy that works at best buys. A few days ago... I picked up a "Dual" cd/mp3/wmv/ player at bestbuys for my S13 coupe for 43 bucks. 3 year warranty was another 4 bucks and the din dock was another 4 bucks. Someone jacked my "tape changer" at Target a few months from that. BestBuy's is the *****!
