Defi Gauge owners!!

I wanted to know if anyone could tell me if it is possible to open the gauge of the Link (black w/green light) and replace the bulb or modify it to the OEM gauge cluster color.

If you or anyone you know has done this please let me know, and where I could find the bulbs. I am realling looking to get the Defi Link guages, but I do not want the green backlight.

Yea! Me too, I was wondering about that. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, Me Tooo!

P.S. I think I am going to sell my oil temp defil link gauge

Chaosx1 02-17-05 01:13 AM

Do you think you could ask the Defi company or a store that sells them if they knew if we could change the color?

InsaneGideon 02-17-05 02:07 AM

Yeah, me three!

We beat this idea to death a while ago...

Now the BF's are available in red: http://www.defi-shop.com/product/bf/bf_top.html

If you're looking to change what you've got, IIRC, the backlighting is white LED, and the coloring is achieved with the face plastic (or possibly by translucent paint on the face). I'm not sure why they dodn't just use green LEDs. I guess they wanted "softer" coloration.

The real kicker is that the bezel is press-fit to the case. You'll have to bend the hell out of the bezel and/or case to get the damn things apart -- something I bet nobody is willing to do with their $150+ gauge.

If the red BFs were around when I made my Link purchase, I probably would've gone that way, even though I'd rather not be forced to use the 60mm-only size. I guess BF is for "Big F*ckin [gauge]". :D

Edit: DCrosby, by proxy, is willing to bend the bezels ;):

i'm getting the d-gauges, much simpler and cheaper. those only come in red and look pretty similar to the factory gauges

My brother got it done for his STi. He took them to a stereo place and they did pretty good. I don't know if this would help.

Awesome gauges. I have many. :D And FYI, since I know this was asked and will be asked again, they use white LEDs as well.

speedx7 02-17-05 08:58 AM

Very clean looking gauges

I am only looking at the 52mm size, besides, I do not want to sound picky, but I do not what the red to be on during the day, just when the lights are on. Does anyone have any pics of the gauges themselves? How they are sealed?

You guys that are running D gauges, do you have install pics? I have been thinking of those for the cost reason, but the Link numbering and such looks awesome!

you're just like me! d-gauges are perfect. they're just conventional gauges, blend in pretty well w/ the stock instruments dials, and glow red at night. and they're cheap

eyecandy 02-17-05 09:59 PM

Thanks for the pics, anyone have them in a DIN panel?

I know this is also lame, but I wish the D were metric units....

Chaosx1 02-17-05 11:57 PM

I wish gauge companies can make it where you can choose your options. Like, choose the color, the units, the size, the looks. And be accurate gauges at a convenient cost. That would be just too perfect though..

Railgun, you're such a copycat... :p:

I can't take credit for that shot. I suck w/ the camera. A guy took it at Rotorfest I believe?

As for shots in the dark, I believe these are yours (which first inspired me to get the Defi D's :bigthumb: )

You're only talking about the D gauges, right? Because if you want them to match the OEM gauges, the BF series just came out with red/amber backlit ones that match our factory gauges prefectly! I just installed these in my MB FD and they look beautiful! I don't have any pics yet...
