Custom speaker box question

Here's my problem. I've got this HUGE 2x12" bandpass box that sounds KILLER, but takes-up waaaaaaaayyyyy too much room in my beloved car. I was wondering if anyone has removed the plastic shell from behind the seats and installed a band-pass enclosure. Hey, some measurements would be nice (I'm good with wood-work, but terrible at math). Thanks for the info!

i'm assuming the box is 24" wide and 12" high, but what's the depth of the box?

the space under the fiberglass shell isn't a nice square area to work with. while you do have approx. 53" from one side of the car to the other, that's about as good as the news gets. the transmission and drive train run through the middle hence the lump just infront of the bins. then at the back you have a huge angle to deal with.

check out this web site.

have you condsidered placing the box on top of the storage bins and placing the amps underneath the shell? because without that angle (which by the way is approx. 60*) the box will interfere with the back of your seats. also a bandpass box made from 3/4" MDF will weigh your car down significantly.

My box is a trapezodial shape. It is 24" at the base, and 9" at the top. It is 36" wide, and 18" tall.

I was originally going to have 2 custom sealed (ported?) boxes made under each compartment, but then I figured I'd go all out and see if I could just go with a nice band-pass enclosure that replaces the entire box. Hmm.... looks that if I were to do it, I'd run into a problem with the volume (cubic-feet) of the box. My speakers reccomend 1.25cubic feet for a sealed enclosure, 2.00 for a ported, and 3.25 for a bandpass (1.25 in front, 2.00 in rear). I think I'll go with 2 sealed boxes underneath the compartments.

Thanks for all the info!

I don't have an FD yet, but in my old car (Mazda MX-3) was broken into 4 times, with my stereo being stolen 2 times. ( I used to be really big into systems) Don't ask, it was just bad luck. Anyways I have been contemplating ideas about how to set up a system into an FD. I must say that was one of the nicest set-ups that I've ever seen.

Yeah, I'm TOTALLY into the stealth thing. I'm weird; see, I don't care as much if my stuff is messed-up, so much as it being stolen. I mean, immagine the look on the idiot's face who got shocked when he tried to seal my Nakamichi head unit (I did a little, ahem, "gray-area," man trap with parts from a taser )

Anyhow, after further investigation, I'm going to go with a sealed box, but instead of making 2 smaller boxes (like on the "Mazda Stereo" page), and leaving room for a power cap, I'm going to make it part of the enclosure, so the bass is slightly stiffer. Hmmm.... I've been thinking of going with a parabolic enclosure for quite some time. Dunno how well it'd fit into the rocket, but it's an idea I've been throwing around.

I'm in the process of feeing-up some time (and motivating myself) to do it, so I'll fill you all in on how well it sounds.

Thanks for the input!
