Custom Center Dash piece *pix* 75% complete

well... my alpine unit has too much **** hanging off the back of it to fit into the dash of the RX7 so I had to do something about that...

Fiberglass to the rescue!

as you can see it points at the driver so it's neato and sweet. lol

Not done yet! Obviously I have a little more sanding to do... then I will be wrapping it in vinyl to match the interior some time this week! don't worry, you all get pictures of progress.

I'll throw it in the car tomorrow for some action shots. the test fits were perfect!

Whatcha think?

my new toys that helped me! (well... not the impact drill)

i think it doent look right because everything else is straight on. if the whole thing was angled than it'd work like the fd's, but like that it is too obviously home made. clean work non the less

I think I am going to see if I can fit my dc-ac converter behind the dash somewhere and put a plug for it under the deck for laptop use. as well as AUX plugs for the deck.

Very nice. Are you going to use texture paint to match the factory?

the best place to get materials is online at USCOMPOSITES.COM

but I was impatient so I went to walmart (auto section, by spray paints). they carry Bondo brand Fiberglass Resin and 1.5oz chop mat and 1.5oz cloth.

I advise against going to walmart for anything that need to be strong. their resin sits on the shelves forever and is shitty. bondo brand sucks. I had to mix my resin with triple the MEPK (catalist) to get it to harden... and even then it took a long time.

check out www.fiberglassforums.com if you're interested in getting into glassing... it's totally worth it! I love glassing!
