The crap under your carpet

What up. Yeah, I am home on a Saturday night--I suck. Hey, I an taking out my interior this week (got the week off). I am curious if anyone has taken out the thick insulation under the carpet? I had a 14psi supercharged Mustang before my FD. When I took out the insulation under that carpet, the noise was unbearable and you could not even carry on a conversation with a passenger. I don't think it will be that bad in my 7. It is pretty think and the insualtion in my Mustang weighed at least 40 pounds. So, has anyone done it yet or have an idea of how much weight it will save? If you have done it or know of anyone who has,was it worth it? Is it rediculous in terms of road noise? Thanks.

Leave it in. If you have a modified exhaust the noise will be too much! It also protects you from the heat.

I'll second that. This wasn't one of those areas mazda cut corners in to save weight- the pros outweigh the cons if its a street car.

Right now, I'm running a dp and RB dual tip with a large streetport, and it gets to me at times. You can definately hear convo. over the exhaust, but with the future plans I'll have to keep things under noise control.
