Convertible subwoofer installs

Convertible subwoofer installs
I'm trying to plan out building and installing a custom enclosure for an 8" Boston Acoustic Pro sub. I'd like to have the sub firing into the cockpit of the car from between the seats. Has anyone tried this and have advice...or better yet pics?
My biggest concern is the cover with the windflap on it. I either need to modify or build a new rearcover. I'd like to create a new one that I'd mount the windflap onto, but I don't think fiberglass will work. Fiberglass will be too rigid to actually be able to bend it for removal incase I get a flat and need to get at the spare.
If it comes down to it I can build an enclosure for the well behind driver's seat, but I really wasn't happy with the 10" sub I put back there. It fired directly into rearcover and created all kinds of rattling from the molding around it.
I'd love to hear from anyone with experience trying this sort of thing.

Thanks for the reply
I can't use that space the way I'm currently setup, I've got an amp hidden away there. I've got 3 amps I'll be using. I've got an Alpine 4 channel something or another that came with the car when I bought it. I've got those pushing Boston Pro 4" mids under the dash and the factory headrest speakers (I use the headunit fader to turn headrest speakers up and down). I've got a JL Slash amp that is pushing Boston Pro components. And I'll have a Zapco pushing the sub.
The Alpine is in the spare cubbyhole, the JL is on the trunk floor, and the Zapco will go in the well behind the driver's seat. I suppose I could relocate the 2 amps in the trunk into the factory spare area and move the spare to the trunk.
Or perhaps keep things the way they are now and when I build the rearcover make it a 2 piece rather than one.
Choices....choices...

I had a sub in the trunk of my vert for a while, I have to say that that worked pretty well. You could hardly hear it at all from outside of the car but inside it worked fantastic, even with the top down. I had a 10" phoenix gold in a largish (for the trunk of the vert, it took up like 1/2 of the trunk) ported box.

Previously I had a Boston Pro 12 in the trunk and didn't like it. The bass was muffled and lost all the accuracy that Boston Pros are known for. I grew into car audio while I had a hatchback and am used to having the bass directly in the cockpit of the car. That and I'm into tight accurate bass rather than asphalt splitting SPL bass. Not that there's anything wrong with SPL systems, they are fun for when I'm in the mood for techno. But for the most part I listen to jam bands (the Dead, Phish, moe., etc), jazz, blues.
Since it seems like no one has done this, maybe I'll keep a photo log of the process and post it once it's done.

I had a solo 10 (round old school) sealed box, powered by soundstream running about 200watts. It was just under the top with no venting at all. Worked great!!! There is quite alot of room under there to work with. My first vert, had the pillar for the spare removed and I could've put to of those boxes in there if i wanted to. The previous owner (i'm guessing) did the same thing that you appear to want to do. It's allot of work and I don't beleive you need to it. Just stuff everything under the cover. Maybe some small vents if you need it.
Good luck

I tried that with a JL 10Wsomethingoranother and had ALOT of rattle. Then I tried a Boston 12 in the trunk and didn't like that either. A thief was kind enough to remove that sub from my posession (it was insured) and I picked up this 8 and have had it mulling around for well over a year now. As a quick try I may try putting it under the cover, just to be sure I won't like it.
