constant power to lighter???
Is there a way to run constant power to the lighter or an extra lighter? The problem is that when I use my laptop (which has no battery), I plug it into my cig. lighter for power. This is fine and dandy until I have to shut the car off for a moment and restart it. When I do this it kills power to the laptop which means that I have to reboot.
I tried wiring an extra lighter directly to the battery, thinking that certainly THAT would keep a constant power supply. WRONG! It does exactly the same thing. I know this type of thing is possible, becasue my work truck ( Ford Ranger) will mintain power even while turning the key. When I'm in the truck, it doesn't matter WHAT I do or how many times I start and stop the truck, the computer stays on.
Can anyone offer suggestions/solutions? Thanks in advance.

rotaries use alot of power to the starter motor, the other car might have a larger battery that can give out enuf amps to the starter while still powering in the laptop. you could try some sort on in line cappacitor so the laptop can have stedy power while starting the car.
