Clear coating interior plastics help

Ive got the MAP pocket to go, but was curious how many people are clear coating their FD interior plastics after painting. I know a ton of people are using the Duplicolor which would not require a clear coat, but I used the Tamiya hobby paint on mine in Metallic black. Turned out well actually. Wondering how many people are clearing over the top of the paint. I dont want to mess up what I have. Ive cleared things before and get mixed results. Sometimes smooth, sometimes a wavy type appearance. A neighbor said I should break down and buy a small auto spray gun and use exterior type clear coat. I read some people have used Krylon in the rattle can but would like to double check that.

Thanks to Mahjik on the Tamiya suggestion. Cost me an arm and a leg for the little cans, but its a really cool look when its dry. Maybe he can chime in.

thanks for the help guys...

What did you do between paint and clear coat? Ive heard a paint stick will smooth the rough spots out. I dont want to sand anymore.

I didn't do anything between the paint and clear coat. The paint was pretty smooth so I didn't feel the need for any extra prep. The thing you'll have to decide is how much protection verses gloss you want for the panels. The more coats you do of the clear will give you more protection, but it will also increase the glare.

It's been years, but I think I did two coats for the clear on my panels.

Want more protection than gloss. I like the dullish look it has now but want it to last also. Some parts are smoother than others. Probably only so much that I can tell anyways. thanks for the info.
