Clear Coat vs. Resin Base
Clear Coat vs. Resin Base
The guy who I have helping me paint my car was showing me this resin based paint that had no clear coat. It didnt look that bad actually, just you couldn't look deep into it. I really like the clear coat though, because you can stare deep into it. So I was wondering what are the pro's and con's of this resin based paint and the clear coat? And by the way, the resin paint is about $600 cheaper.

I'm not a paint expert, but I was involved in the painting of my RX-7 (I did lots of prep, and minor repairs). My body guy was basically saying that resin based paints are crap. There's a reason why it's $600 cheaper. The clear coat adds protection, and of course that deep shine that we all like.
Just my 2 cents, worth it or not.

you can get the resin based paint really shiny as well, and when you get oxidation, you can just buff it out. Clear coat looks better IMO and is easier to paint to look good (less sanding etc..), but when it goes it goes, and at that price.....that sucks.
Base/clear is easier to work with in my experience, and I think the results are worth the extra $$$. The paint nowadays should take quite a beating, and no matter resin or base/clear, out in the AZ heat for so long, the paint will degrade.
yeah I have a resin base now and it sucks. When it is waxed up it looks like a million bucks. 2 days later it looks like a old sun faded red fc. Go with clear I will not make that mistake next time
