Center speaker can still be bought!

I was searching through old threads to see if 3.5 can fit in the center speaker spot. And every thread I read saids the pioneer center speaker can no londger be bought. They are wrong http://www.etronics.com/listproducts...14&image1.y=15

Its called Pioneer TS-CX7 2.5 inch and for any of you audio guys, like my self, this website is second to none in good prices. Peace

What I always wanted to know is, do you have to remove the speaker to install a center gauge pod !?
Can you run the wires beside the speaker and keep in in place !?

And if you keep it, how does it impact the quality !? I would immagine less high end.. and more bass / baffled / muffled, sound..

I guess you could. But then you wouldn't hear it unless you were standing inside the gauge pod

Yes, you can install Frank's (flyrx7) gauge pod without taking the center speaker out but it doesn't sit in the cavity as well.

Just remove the speaker, you won't really miss it. Its only impact on the sound is to raise the soundstage slightly and to prevent the image from pulling as far left and right. A very small price to pay for having gauges mounted in a non-destructive way and in line-of-sight.

Speakin of the center speaker..does anybody know if this is true?

when i first got my FD..i noticed there wasn't any sound comin outta the center speaker...and the bose sound system was removed, and replaced w/ a pioneer head unit.

took it to audio guy, and he told me yea those center speakers aren't worth tryin 2 replace, cuz it comes w/ it's own amp, and was tellin me compatability issues w/ the aftermarket head unit..etc. so i was like eh..wutever. and i let it go.

so my question is...would the pioneer TS-CX7 center channel speaker work w/ my setup? (Sorry, dont know much bout electronics). if so, is it all plug 'n play? just replace the old speaker w/ the new speaker, and it should work?

thanx

<<it's a normal speaker. I just hooked the badboy up and went on with life.>>

didja notice much diff in sound quality or loudness? cuz i know one thing that gets 2 me is the bulk of the sound is from behind u... (im very partial to component systems..gettin some real nice sound comin from front and rear...)

so in that aspect, u think it's a noticeable diff? worth gettin?

thanx

I could be completely wrong about this.. but I think only Boss head unit has out put to use the center speaker.. other head units only have 4 out put..

Unless, you get dolby 5.1 and then connect to your center.. But then you are looking at some aftermarket amps and stuff..

You're wrong...hehe.

The non-bose system feeds speaker level left and right to the center amp, which powers the center speaker. The center speaker just plays a mono blend of the stereo signal, not only certain frequency ranges as some believe.....

If you just hooked the aftermarket head unit to the existing wiring harness, the center speaker is working the same as it did with the stock unit.

It does make a noticable difference but it certainly still leaves much to be desired as far as the frontal sound stage goes.

Rob...

that's exactly what i wanted to know. right now i got pioneer tweeters as well, but they're only highs, so the diff is better treble...but nothing incredibly diff.

i was thinkin bout hooking up/replacin the center speaker...but like u said, if that still leaves the frontal sound stage lacking, got any suggesstions for making major improvements?

there really isn't much that you can do. I would replace the center if you are trying to keep the stock bose setup.

gotcha, Maybe you can upgrade your front speakers or possibly add some mid woofers on your kick panels.

Are you driving the front speakers to their full potential? if not, you may want to consired amplifying your components.

the center speaker is a small piece of the puzzle, it will definitely help but it's not going to be the miracle cure.

I have a 5 channel full system amp for sale which should suit this application. Check the for sale other than car parts section.

If you want quality sound you are going to need quality equipment. I recomend, JL and Carion all around.

Rob...

u make a good point bout the quality speakers...but when i bought my FD, it came w/ practically new pioneer speakers all around, so its really a waste of money for me to throw 'em out and replace 'em at this point. figured id use 'em till i blow 'em, then upgrade to some serious speakers w/ a component system

as for the sub, i have been considerin hookin up an amp to my speakers. i checked out ur amp, it's a sweet one...and im def considerin it. check your PMs for more bout that

bumping this 7 year old thread.

whats everyone using to replace the center now? the pioneer ts-cx7 is an enclosed speaker? is this the same as it was in 2003? so how does this fit in the center? just do some dash cutting and wedge the thing in? lol.

Wow this is an OLD Thread ! LOL !

Uh well, I went and removed the speaker, and installed the gauge pod, and haven't missed it, my door speakers came with those tiny tweeters, that are separate and about the size of a Snapple lid, and they filled in the highs for me, but then again, I never had a proper head unit, since I used to build my own car-pc's, and I never got the dynamic range out of a sound blaster card to match a fully parametric EQ. Or even sound profiles like they have on modern units.
