center console

I was wondering if Mazda makes a spray paint to match the stock center console or if anybody else makes a paint that closely matches the texture of the semi-flat film on it. My console is peeling (93FD). i was thinking i could just primer mine and spray it with some semi gloss latex enamel? but i want it to match the the rest of console. thanks for your advice in advance.

That layer of film, what ever it is that is covering the console, is a huge pain to sand off. I had a lot of trouble with that stuff. I ended up just sanding the parts that were peeling or scratched as smooth as I could, and then primed it all about 5 coats, then sanded the primer lightly and painted with semi gloss black. I redid the entire dash though including the gauge pod and a/c control area, so I'm not sure about matching the semi-flat stock stuff. Best of luck

Here is what I did today. I sprayed it with Tamiya surface primer+flat black and it seems to match perfect the rest of the panels :

^^^,
mine came out looking pretty good too, I spent like an hour and a half getting all that film off, I used a razor blade to peel it all off, then sanded it with 1000 grit, then primered it, I used 4-5 coats of sandable primer, sanded the primer with 1500 or 2000 one of those, then i sprayed it with a couple of coats of satin black and it looks like it is brand new. thanks for all the help once again.

Chris, don't take this wrong bro but, don't be surprised if the paint peels off. The reason why I say this is because you should'nt have used such a fine sandpaper to sand the primer before painting. The paint needs something to grab on to. 400 wet would've been fine. If you guys want it to look smoothe as glass, you can clearcoat it after the paint, wait until it dries (next day) and sand it. If there are slight dirt or dust particles in it, I would start with 800 wet. You can then work your way up to the 2000, apply some wax and buff it out.

^^ No offense taken, I didn't know that and now i do . thanks for advice. I should have had more patience and waited to do it anyway, if/when it starts to peel I will just redo it with the rougher grit.

This technique is often used at car lots to refurbish a used cars interior. If you go to a large lot ask the Used car manager who he uses. He'll tell you. There are mobile guys that come around and do interiror scrapes and carpet cigeratte burns etc.

So we have one person that used flat black and the other used satin black. So what color is closest to stock?

There is paint that matches the stock plastic perfectly. Don't remember the brand but I do remember buying it from Pep Boys
