I have the BOSE system and am looking to do this:

-Get a new middle speaker (the old one blew out)
-Get a new CD player/face/radio
-POSSIBLY replace side speakers

Is there a way to do this -- and save the old BOSE stuff -- giving me a good system and value at the end? Or would I be better off to replace the entire thing? Keep in mind that I'm on a college student's budget.

What I would do, is disconnect the middle speaker, and replace the door speakers with some decent aftermarket speakers (Alpine, Image Dynamics, Kenwood makes a good 5.25 as well). Replacing the CD player can be expensive but is easy to install. I guess you could just keep the old Bose stuff around to install if you sell it or something.

 

Get the Clarion DVD player with flip up screen. It should fit close. Don't quote me on this. You may need to sell a vital organ to afford it. Bose makes good speakers. I'm sure they would have the appropriate sizes.

 

Try a search. Lot's of people have tinkered with the Bose system.

If you're looking into replacing the head unit, I believe you need a Scosche-made adapter. See the stick thread listed at the top of this forum.

 

I changed my head unit and door speakers, and attempted to use the bose tube for a subwoofer for a while, but it never sounded good. You can do it, and itll work, but you will eventually want to upgrade the sub. You can get a new head unit, and use the door speakers for a while as well - they have their own amps. Stepping up to a 10" sub in a small sealed enclosure made all the difference in the world. With 6.5 comps in the doors and just the 10" sub, it sounds better than the bose system ever did, plus its louder. Even the bose system working perfectly does not get loud enough for my tastes.
