Carpet Dye

I am looking to change the interior color of my 86 RX from cranberry to black. I already have all the hard plastics painted and the seats and belts replaced. I decided to dye the carpet instead of replacing it. Does anyone have experience on doing this or know what product is the best to buy (aerosol, or liquid)? any help at all would be amazing. Thanks

my brother got a kit for his 86 bmw, from one of there places, he died it back to the factory colour. It looked good, but it still faded. so he has to do it ever so often. But I dont know how it would switching colours so much. check for replacement carpets, because by the time you buy all the dies and supplies, it might be close to the same price. Anyway good luck with your project. Hope it works out for you!

I did mine with VHT and when the store ran out of that I use a few bottles of duplicolor.

Make sure you:
1. Clean the carpet completely. I had to hang mine on the fence and beat it like the old days.
2. Brush the carpet and then spray it. Wait for it to dry and brush it a diffent direction and spray it again.

Good Luck.

I would post pics but I don't have a camera.

i re-dyed the blue carpet in my vert when i had it, using basically the same method as above. kinda sucks having to pull everything out to remove it.

as far as durability, only issue i had was around where your heals sit as your driving, so i would re-apply every few months. and it smells funny for a while after you dye it. i used the duplicolor spray dye.
