Carbon Fiber Hood prep, need advice!

I received my carbonlite hood the other day and I have already spent 4 hours wet sanding it down. I bought the hood cheap because the clear coat was for all purposes, destroyed and I had set my mind to just paint it to match. However, when I got the hood and actually looked at it in purpose it was not nearly as bad as I thought and definetly looked salvagable.

Like I said ive been wet sanding it for about 4 hours working with 400, 600, 800, and 1000. For the most part the old clear is gone. However there are multiple large splotches where the clear is stubbornly sticking on. Its nowhere near as bad as it was at first and in the right light the carbon twill pattern is visible, however on these trouble spots it blurs and hazes if you look at it from any other angle.

My question is this: Can I simply reshoot the clear and restore that shiny cf-look? Do I need to spend another 4 hours completely sanding it down to cf for it to work? Or is it a lost cause all-together and should I just respray it in color? Also, I am no stranger to fiberglass work as I do all my own bodywork, but Ive never worked on carbon fiber before.

Thanks a lot!!

(btw, I've searched google, called ViS, and emailed the seller - everyone has given me different answers and Im having a hard time figuring out what to do)
