I saw a post on EBAY once for a CF (Mazdaspeed look) hood. It was mighty cheep. But I did not buy it because I could not understand what the seller was saying about the finish.

I want a CF Hood I can have painted (VR to match the rest of the car), what finish do I need to specify to be able to paint this hood? Are all CF hoods paintable?

 

Yeah, you can paint over them. Depending on the gel coat you may get some texture bleed through, but most body shops will know to heat cycle the hood prior to painting, and then let it sit so the texturing can be smoothed when painting... You can get FG mazdaspeed hoods here:

if you're gonna paint it you might as well get the FG, as the weight savings isn't much and the FG is cheaper. Or you can get CF if you want.
