Can you buy that white plastic-like covering new cars come with?
You know what I'm talking about? When a new car is being delivered to the dealership, they usually have this white plastic-like covering on the hood, front bumper, fenders etc...to protect them from any incidental damage along the way. It sticks to the body, peels off in a second, and leaves on residue. Good stuff, eh? 
I'm curious if you can buy that stuff? It would be a great way to keep the car pristine once you detailed it and are on your way to an event/show etc. Anyone know if you can buy that stuff?

if your looking to keep your car clean. why not just buy a Quick Detailer spray and spray your car down if theres minor dust and wipe down with a micro fiber towel?. if you looking for protection agaisnt damge then iuno lol.

spray wax isnt going to work... Quick Detailer Sprays will only work if you have a very very very thin layer of dust on your paint surface. if its realy visable you shouldnt use a QD, since it will mar the paint. wash!

no lol. i only found autopia a few months ago. and i basically knew most if not everything already. i still hceck out the place for new "click and brags". you still havent posted any pics of your FD detail yet!

We use one brand at my work called Protex (www.maskoff.com) which is pretty heavy duty and probably overkill for a car. You might be able to find cheaper alternative at www.taperite.com, or do a google search for "surface protection tape".
P.s. You can get it in clear...so it won't look too stupid

Holy thread hijack! lol.
Guys, I know all about detailing, and Meguiar's Quick Detail (the absolute BEST) etc. But still, when you're making a long trip to an event, and just cleaned the car, you risk more than just dust. Dirt, mud, even rock chips etc. That film would come in handy.
Boxboy, I'll look into that stuff. I'm trying to stay away from spending a grand or so on 3M film... lol

In any case, just go to Vons and rock some Saran-Wrap. And it won't break the bank so you can buy some lambo-doors for your daily driver.

Yea I've seen the blue painter's tape. My only question is...does that stuff leave any residue? I don't think I've ever bothered to check, and they always wash the car after they're done anyways... But that's not a bad idea. Only prob is, the tape is only so wide... (vs. the thing the dealerships use, which is like a huge sheet). But def worth thinkin about. Thanks!
