A/C gave up the ghost, searched, no joy - gurus: HELP?
Ok, after nearly ten years of flawless performance my A/C finally quit the other day. I can't bitch since I use it alot and ten years out of any system without touching it is pretty remarkable.
Took it to my buddy, we injected dye, used UV light and an ion "sniffer" with no positive results for leaks. It took 3/4 lb of R-12 so that's the reason it quit. (It only holds 1&1/4 total!) Works fine now, but at $50 a lb. I need to find the problem - and it's STILL in the upper 90's in Tucson.
So we're scratching our *****, kicking the dirt and thinking I've got a REALLY slow leak somewhere that may take months to leakdown to a failure point.
Has anyone pinpointed a failure prone part of the A/C system in the past where I can start looking for more dye? I'm thinking the compressor since it is so close to the turbos.......
I hate throwing parts at a problem. Especially compressors - they are big $$$. I really need help from someone who knows their **** in this area.
Thanks!
