Body WOrk Guru's!!!

Ok, my hood flew up at 80ish, cracking the windshield, and wrinkling the roof. A body shop said they would have to cut the roof off, and replace it with a new one, and replace the cracked mindshield. Cost: approx. $1700. Now, I really am not all about pretty, but it just looks HORRIBLE to me, so I need to get it fixed. Do you think they HAVE to replace the whole roof? They said it will cost $600 for a new windshield (which I found out is $400 more than anyone else has paind). Are thry ripping me off?

Ive cut the roof off a 85 and replaced with a factory sunroof one... Looking at the severity of the dents and wrinkles, Id say it would be far easier to just cut it off and weld a new skin on..Its about 8 hours work to get it off and then weld the new one in... Been there twice, and have yet to see a body shop yet that was reasonable..

Well, it just looks like hail damage. I may just have the rust spots sanded and repainted as a temp fix, just till I can afoord the whole job, and keep modding the car.

Sorry to hear that man, how'd it happen?

Ayways Peter what I have to say is if I were you I would say if you went ahead and replaced that meg(roof), that would be great. Oh oh and I almost forgot if you could go ahead and try to find a windsheild for a better price that would be terrific.

That sucks!! Was it an aftermarket hood? I had my old hood fold back once when I was checking the oil at a gas station. F-ing wind folded it right back. All it damaged were the tips of the hood. I got Mazdaspeed replica going on now due to hail damage that worked the **** out of it. I would sell that car after its fixed and start swapping your parts over.

Well, I have found a windsheild for $250ish shipped (Victoria British ROCKS) and I am gonna check out just getting the rust, and the big dents removed. This car is getting prepped for a drifter, and I plan on buying a Miata or a FB in the next year or so for daily driver, so perfection is not key. Thanks for the responses guys!! And no, stock hood blew up!!
