Best subwoofer for <$100
Hey guys, I"m looking to pick up a 10" sub for my 7. I want mostly SQ, but a little bump isn't bad. It'll definitely be in a sealed enclosure. What do you think is the best bang for your buck these days in a sub...i'm willing to buy used as well. I'm not new to the Mobile audio game...i've been MECP certified for years...I just haven't done mobile audio for a living in years, and I know alot of new audio companies have popped up that I know nothing about, so I figured I'd ask for your opinions.
The last system built for myself was with 2 Audiomobile MASS 2012....which most of you probably never heard of and they went out of business years ago...but man...they had some great sounding subs....anyway...hit me up with some ideas.
Oh and I just need the sub, I can build a small box after I pick up the sub.

Thanks for the heads up bro...looking around they seem to be getting good reviews...Have you had any personal experience with these? I'm looking at the 11kv.2 which i guess is one of their low/mid level subs...how would that compare to say a 10" alpine type-r (just using this as a reference for what I know sounds pretty good...even tho the type-r's are a little more expensive)?

ask around for used subs u can get killer deals on the steet but... half the time the stuff is stolen. your best bet is to check out cuirut city bestbuy hh greg. most places have buy one get one free for around a 100bucks if your lookn for sq i would go with 12s bcs imo 10s have a good amount of punch but they just cant get as low as 12s
here is a list of subs i have personaly owend and how they ranked
1. 4 12" jl wo 600 watts best subs for the money everything jl audio sounds great for $125 each
2. 1 kicker solo beric l5 10" pushing with 450 rms sounds really good for a spl type sub and its biult like a tank $200
3. 2 alpine 12" type e i ran them with 300rms at 2ohms on a mono amp in a geo metro and hit 157 db i got the pair of them for 120 this is one of the best subs for the money
4. 2 bazooka 12" subs ive had the yellow dust cap ones the cheapest and the next up i think its called the EL. both kinds are great subs but dont like to be pushed to the limit they sound better and hit harder the mtx6000 subs thats y i bought them over all this is a good sub to look at also for the a budget price range a pair can be had cheap 120sh
5. 4 10" infinty ref subs not much to say they sound good but lacked spl however the tech support is the best ever they sent me a sub for free bcs i had 4 and 1 just **** the bed out of the blue the place i bought it said it was my fault but when i called crown audio the peaple that made the sub they sent me a new one no questions asked and i didnt have to even send them the old one... i got 2 pairs for 250
6. 2 12" crossfires great sub but they dont make them anymore
7. 1 10"alpine type-r worse sub i ever bought i blew it in a day with 150watts rms to break it in..... worse 300bucks i ever spent..... i could have gotn a dud but come on it blew with 150 watts
8. walmart 6.5" roadgear bass tubes.....idk what they sound like but they can only handle 1600 watts for about 2 seconds
that mtx rms rating is the true rms almost all other amp are rated at 14.5 or 16.5 volts to give u higher numbers
if your lookn for 1 sub id really go with a 12 instead of a 10. if you can look into jl audio or infinity for sq or look for a low qts rating on the sub when u go shopping the qts rating is kinda like the power band of the sub the highr number the more the sub wants to peak
lower rating will give you a wider powerband more even sound

no the mtx rating was low...i don't have it still...but the birth sheet that came with it showed the actual #'s of the amp at the posted 12.5V and it was higher than the generic rating given for the amps.
Also on your alpine type-r...you must of had a dud...or some serious clipping or something to blow it like that. I built and designed a system for my buddy who is running 2 10" alpine's pushing 500w rms to each with a memphis amp (don't remember model #) and it sounds good and hits hard.
Lastly, there is no "street sales" here...there are no pawn shops, or anything else of the sort. I live out in the country and there's very little demand for any kind of high-end systems here...which is why I quit working in the business. At best around here all anybody wants is whatever rattles the car beside them, and could care less what it actually sounds like.

+1 for Elemental Designs. I've got two 13kv2's powered by a Nine.1 in the back of my FD, they hit hard and low, especially for a sealed enclosure. Knowing what I know now, I could've just done a single 13kv2 and I would've been okay, but oh well, more's better I guess. They also come with a 3 year warranty, which is great.

^yea I'm only gonna go with 1 sub...there are a couple on ebay used that I'm gonna watch for the next couple days. Keep the ideas coming, but so far I'm liking everything I'm reading on the elemental designs, and I'm always up for giving a relatively unknown brand a shot, especially reading people comparing them to midrange JL, Alpine, etc, etc.

One other thing...does anybody know about Element enclosures ...I believe they went out of business a few years back but I'm not sure. They made pretty cool boxes (if you can call them that), or maybe somebody have one for a single 10" or 12" sub?

What do you guys think about eclipse subwoofers? I've found a used (2 or 3 years old..but like new) 10" aluminum cone (don't have model #...but it's not the titanium series..it's the series just below that) sub. What do you guys think of these...I heard good things about them a few years back...but have never had one myself.

Eclipse used to be a great manufacturer, until they were either bought out by another company or started using a different supplier. Their stuff for the past 2-3 years, while still okay, is crap compared to what they used to put out.

Tc sounds makes some nice subs for sq and spl. I'm running a 8'' tc1000 in a .7cf sealed enclosure. I'm around 125db off a 400w amp bridged mono. Only downfall is the subs weighs in at 20lbs or so. Tc is a build house for eclipse and a few other well known companies.

If you looking for spl, get a dd1008, one 8 will can reach 145dbs with a proper setup.
I think a 10 is too much for a fc, just my opinion, a nice 8 will turn the cabin into a pressure chamber
heres my 8, 24mm xmax yeaaaah

well... i just picked up a brand new eD 13kv.2 D4 for $75...seemed like a good deal. I think I'm gonna ditch the MTX and pick up a small monoblock to run it. I"m looking at a used JBL BP600.1 I had it's big brother and it's a great bang for your buck amp. I'll just wire up the sub for 2ohms and push 600 watts to the sub. I've seen different ratings for these subs for power handling...will it take 600watts (assuming I'm not overdriving it and clippping and whatnot)...or should I go with something a little smaller? Give me some more recommendations. I'm looking used because I really don't wanna go over $120 or so for the amp and I know from personal experience that that little JBL does what it's suppose to.

what do you need 2 channels for...if it's for subs..just get a big monoblock that's like 2 ohm stable...and wire it down to 1 or 2 ohm...you don't need stereo for subs anyway...i'vehead too much to dr45ink.

for example..... scince the TC1000 is 400rms, i want to run 2 of them.......... so im guessing that i need to find an amp that puts out 800rms @ 2ohms?
if thats correct, then the Alpine MRP-M850 would be a good choice... put out 800rms @ 2ohm

OR...get an amp that is 1-ohm stable and does 800watts @ 1 ohm and then you can get 2 dual 4-ohm voice coil subs and wire them in parellel to get your 1 ohm load.

I had a thread about a good amp for me... don't want to start a new thread about a sub... so I'll ask here...
I want to add a sub to my car. Not looking for mind-numbing bass, but my stereo has almost no bass now. I just bought a used Pioneer 480watt 4-channel amp. What type of sub should I get? Sound quantity is not a concern, quality vs cost is. I want something cheap, that doesn't sound like crap, that will give me a reasonable amount of bass.
