I don't know anything about which is the "best" paging system. I do know that the Viper 800ESP that I just had installed has the paging option (I did not get it). Every pager I have ever used has worked in just about every building. The only exception was when I worked in the intelligence career field. Some of the buildings I worked in or visited were specially shielded and, as a result, you would lose service. But you should be able to get a page AT LEAST every place you can receive a cell phone call, regardless which system you buy.

Both the Viper and Alpine pager systems are okay... BUT you must remember a few things about pager alarms before you waste your money.

#1. If you think the pager (no matter what the salesperson says) is gonna go [transmit] more than a 1/2 mile you will be sadly disappointed, unless you live in the middle of a flat plain with nothing/ no one around you for 50 miles. Note the specs for all pagers, they say: "UP TOO 4 miles range"... that is the maximum range the FCC will allow. Due to manufacturing tollerances most manufactures actually tune the range much much lower as not to run afoul of the FCC.

#2. Don't think you are gonna stop someone from stealing your car when the pager goes off. You must remember serious car theives are criminals. They often have weapons. So you go run down at 3 am with your baseball bat thinking you will stop this criminal from stealing your car, and he shoots you, or if your lucky his buddy that you didn't see hiding in the shadows, jumps you and beats the crap out of you. Nothing like getting mugged and your car stolen. This happens every single day don't pooh pooh it.

#3 as mentioned in NJDave's reply, anything that transmitts at 27.5 Mhz (same freq that CB radios use BTW) will disrupt the signal from the pager reducing the range or even worse, disabling your pager all together.

#4 Pagers generally use the AM/FM antenna on the car. This will reduce your AM/FM reception at all times. If you must have a pager use a CB antenna on the car (which is gonna look real pretty on the back end of a RX7. The windsheild or internal pager antennas further reduce the range we mentioned in #1.

If you must have some sort of tracking/notifying device, get a Lojack. But insurance and a good alarm is by far your best bet.

And, to add to Icemark's reply, if a professional thief wants your car, they'll get it. I got just about every option on my alarm system you can get and even a couple of extra features entirely independent of the alarm system to make the system harder to get around. But, given enough time, a pro could still figure it all out, I'm sure.

I would highly suggest you do something in addition to whatever alarm system you install. Pay a little extra money and have your installer get creative with the installation (e.g., different location for the "brain," battery back up for both the alarm siren AND the brain, etc). Maybe one or more fuel cut off switches, an independent starter kill switch, etc. Of course, the trick here is to put these switches in a location where no one will notice you flipping them as you get out of or into the car. All you can hope to do is slow thieves down enough to make it not worth their time.

And, of course, this still won't prevent them from towing the car - even with a tilt sensor, the alarm will go off and most likely no one will pay attention anyways.

Ya I know a guy that works at a stereo place that also sells alarms. He had a few grand in stereo equipment plus a few TVs & a DVD player stolen. Not sure which alarm but it all got stole. SO if they really really really want your **** they will have it. I just want an alarm for the little kiddies that might want to jack my stereo, not my car. I am not very worried about my car being stolen. Sure they wouldn't realize there is a fuel pump kill switch much less be able to find it. I am gettin a pit bull and an alarm. Think that will do pretty good. Most peoples **** gets taken from their house cuz people know they have it and plan it. So when you cruisin around your neighborhood might wanna think about havin your system up loud. Just my 2.
