That question is sort of like asking what is the best tasting cookie?

The best sounding speakers, only you can determine by going into stereo stores and listening yourself and figuring out what you can afford and sounds good to you.

I can tell you what I think is the best, but if your ears are not exactly the same as mine, and you don't listen to exactly the same music I do, you may be quite unhappy.

Go take a CD of music you like and spend a day in all the stero stores in the area. Then you will know.

Ok I listen to a lot of hip hop, R&B, Techno/trance music. I was thinking of getting the image dynamics horn components set or the momo polk components. I remembered a post before the forum was hacked where someone posted a link to a good set of components that sounded REALLY good. I guess what I'm trying to say is it has to sounds VERY VERY good. Any suggestions??? If money is not a matter what would you guys recommend???

thanks

Money no object? probably Scanspeak revelators with custom crossovers with audiocap theta capacitors and perfect lay inductors.

Money kind of an object? Seas Lotus components from www.madisound.com would be near the top. Focal Utopia, Dynaudio, MB Quart, Peerless, Morel, a/d/s/, and rainbow are all among the best. Definitely listen to as many as you can. Most of the names i mentioned are readily available, but i can pretty much assure you that the Polks aren't in the same league.

If money is not an issue, I read of a guy who stuck some B&W mid and tweeters from a $10,000/each home speaker in his car. The home speaker only comes with one mid and one tweeter too. You should never say money isn't an issue unless your a billionaire.

The speakers probably used Skaaning drivers. They are used in a few speakers that cost well over 10k a pair. You can get them for ~700.00 each. They were designed by the same guy that made the Scan Speak revelators I mentioned.

I agree with Icemark - you have to decide for yourself what you like. You can go as high as you want in price. For me, I chose the MB Quart RKC series (coax). I am simply amazed at the imaging that results from these speakers - the speakers are mounted in the stock locations behind the stock grills under the dash (4") and in the doors (6.5"). I was concerned about imaging and, therefore, was going to get separates, but I really wanted a total stealth installation. I'm now glad that I stuck with coax speakers - I can't imagine that the sound would be much better with components. The image is such that the sound appears to be coming from the center of the windshield. The head unit I have also allows adjustment of the depth and width of the soundstage by using DSP. I was skeptical of the DSP at first because most DSP modes in my home theater (other than Dolby Digital/DTS) are just about worthless. But the adjustments available in my head unit really add to the sound without creating distractions.

Many people have complained about the harshness of the high frequencies in the Quarts. They can get harsh, that's for sure. But you should be able to adjust the equalization with a good head unit and that tones the highs to a manageable level.
