AutoMeter Water Temp gauge: Mechanical or Electrical?

So then I was over at the local car parts store and was looking to buy an Autometer water temp gauge. The guy insisted and recommended that I get the electrical one. He goes on about his reasoning and didn't quite make sense to me.

Would you guys also agree to use the electrical gauge for water temp instead of mechanical?

Thanks.

-Dan

YES. Get an electrical gauge. Unless you like the idea of hot water/coolant running into your passenger compartment....

punks.

LOL.

I have a water temp gauge that I never used. ITs an autometer, I *THINK* have the sender, you may need to get one though. I'll sell you the gauge for $15.00. It would include the gauge, the little light thingy and thats about it. Im 95 pct sure that I have the sender too.

I'm looking at either the CF face with chrome bezel or black with chrome bezel. I'm gonna buy either one of those 2 next week when their boost gauges come in.

my electrical guage doesnt work. Its new and how hard can it be to install it. Also the mechanical isnt like a mechanical fluid guage. The only difference is that its better(from what i have been told by more than one person). It uses a 1/2 npt adpter, but can easily be swaped out and a local bolt supply/parts store(maybe not advanced auto or auto zone). The mechanical also reads about 30 degrees higher.

David,

Is it a 52mm with a black face? If so, I'll buy it. I bought one off ebay but it was too small and it won't match my boost gauge.

the one I have is black face with chrome bezel, amber lighting, red needle. Looks like stock.

Its up to you, I thought I'd help you save a few bucks. It makes no difference to me, been sitting at my house for a year and a half.

I like the mechanical water temp gauges, if we're talking about Autometer. The mech's are a full 270 degree sweep, whereas the electrical are only 90 degree sweep. Also, as noted by someone, mechanical water temp gauges don't have the water running through them, they use a capillary tube that basically relays what the probe temp is to the gauge itself. Now, as far as an oil/fuel pressure gauges, I would definetely get electrical for that.

regards,
Frank

Sorry Guys,

I didn't mean to highjack your guage. I gathered from Evil's post, you weren't interested...
