autometer and all their options
Ok ppl:
I've been trying to get a feel for autometer and all the millions of options they offer for guages. I want to buy the top of the line autometer's but I cannot figure out which line that is, thay all cost about the same. My guess is that Phantom and Ultra-lite are the top of the line models they offer.
Also, are they back lit, or light bulbs on the side? (ie the summit catalog says the A/F gauge is not lit at all???)
Any other experiences/opinions?
edit-what about the cobalt line? What quality can be expected from that?

All the Autometer CONSUMER gauge lines are basicly the same except for COSMETICS the PROFESSIONAL COMPITITION line of Liquid Filled Guages are much better and cost 3-5 times more!
I think they ALL use side illumination, but I only have personal experience with the Sport Comp style so can't say for certain.
The A/f Meter dosen't have any Illumination because it uses an LED display. (that is quite brite at night!)

Pro-Comp
Ultra-Lite
Phantom
Sport-Comp
Performance
Z-Series
They Claim the new Cobalt and Lunar Series gauges are of Ultra-Lite quality as far as the mechanism but the shell is plastic instead of aluminum. I personaly think that they are more on the Sport comp level because hard core racing would not really require fancy lighting. The two functions (accuracy/show) do not mix well without the price going up substantially. IMO.
Any more input???

I used all Pro-Comp Ultra Lite stuff for my car. Some of them are not hooked up yet. Here's what's in so far...
