you guys need to read and learn some more if you don't know anything about audio systems. The more caps( more farad) the better it will handle peak loads of the amps thus releaving the load on the alternator.so please think before you speak.

The car doesn't need to "charge" the capacitors, the electrical system will have no problem using them. 10 farads is possible, and Audiobahn makes such a capacitor! (amazing). It's a brick-stype cap with some heavy duty internals. I've seen one db dragger use 50 farads of capacitance.
Gosh, some people....

Raj: www.howstuffworks.com read up on farads, amperage, alternators, and automobile electrical systems.
The stereo system will drain the cap, and it will immediately 'absorb' the power back from the electrical system. The Alternator has a voltage regulator, so as soon as it dips below whatever ours is, 13V?, it outputs power until the electrical system is above 13. If you're draining the capacitor, that's a MUCH less of a load on the electrical system than if you were running the audio system without a cap at all!!

WTF?
Both you guys are idiots.
Cappy, what did you post to me.....I know what a capacitor is. And I already apologized for hijacking your thread....but now it continues.
Hyperite, you substituted my saying "charging from the electrical system", which it obviosly does, to....
"no, it doesn't re-charge..it 'absorbs' power back from the electrical system"
Go back and keep reading the posts between you and I over, and over, and over again untill you see that your flimsy attempts to knock my rhetoric were idiotic.

Wasn't going to play this card, but since you started the name calling Cappy, why don't you post a pic of this CAP.
Email it to me and I can host it for you if you want.

The way you said that the electrical system would not be able to charge the cap made it sound like you thought it was eqivellant to a battery (which in some ways, yes...it is, but not in the way that the alternator needs to charge a battery for longer than an instant). Here, how about this. Since you seem to be the end-all source on electronic rhetoric, please tell me how and why our cars would not be able to *charge* a 10 farad capacitor.
As for a picture, I'm guessing here, but I'll wager that this is the capacitor he is selling:
