I agree with DCrosby,
there is a bolt that is right under the center dash (under the stereo) that the carpet goes through....
While it is possible to cut the carpet and pull it over the bolt, it is near impossible to slide the new carpet in.
I spent 2 days trying to slide it in. Even squirted silicone lube to make it easier. Finally, I just unbolted the dash (maybe 20mins to do at the max) and slid the new carpet in....
Long story short, take the dash out and save the headache and your scraped knuckles.
