Anyone install an auto dimming mirror?

I was checking autoanything.com and found the Gentex K2 auto-dimming rear view mirror. I dunno about you guys, but my car is pretty low to the ground and any SUV (like 80% of drivers on the road) behind me is like have high beams warming up the back of my head. Anyone have experience installing these in their cars? Are these aftermarket autodimming mirrors of good quality or cheap knockoffs of OEM mirrors?

Was there any big noticeable wiring to be run under the headliner or anywhere?

How do you like it? Was this in an FD?

No noticable wiring, but I have a sunroof, so it was simple to tap into that. I love it and think it makes the FD look a lot more modern, huge difference asthetically. I have dark tint on the rear window, so it doesn't do me all that much good, but I mostly got it for the Homelink, to open my garage door. It also has a compass.

This is a great question... I was wondering if I could get the mirror from Mazda with the auto dimming and Homelink... don't really care for the compass... but the Homelink would be a huge time saver!

Str8Down,
Did you get your mirror from Mazda? was it hard to tap into the Sunroof for power?

I had also been thinking about getting an auto dimming mirror. I want it for the obvious dimming, but also the compass and outside temperature. The only problem I have had is that I wanted one with a red display to match the stock gauges. The only place that I have looked is autoanything.com. I had not thought about getting an OEM Mazda mirror.

No it was not OEM. And let me tell you, installing an aftermarket mirror in a 7 is a BITCH!!! They use a mounting bracket on the windshield that NOBODY else uses, and there is no adapter. Tapping into the sunroof for power was rediculously easy though. I will try to get a pic later.

Well, in their defense, the model was aimed to be a sports car, not a luxury car...

It'll be nice to see a pic though!

I agree, but that is only because in 93, there was no way or vision to combine the 2. Now there is, and that is my goal with the FD.
