I did use schieb and my paint peeled off after 2 year in spots and they did no sanding or anything like that. Just spray over my old job. If you prep it yourself and give them the paint, as well as finish it yourself you might be alright.

IMHO its worth the money to do it right. I will be collecting replacement parts for mine when i paint it. Find a good (and I mean GOOD) ma and pa shop, expect to pay, but if they do good you will be very satisfied.... Just an opinion tho...

The previous owner got the $200 earl sheib paint job on my car in Sept. of 2004. They spraid over the existing paint, no sanding. The paint is flaking all over the wing, in tons of little cracks and corners. They didn't mask the car off well. I have overspray on the rubber around my sunroof, outside window seals, parts of my hatch. It looks like they use no clear coat around my side mirrors, it just looks like straight up paint. There is run on on certain parts of the car.
Basically, you get what you pay for. If you get the cheap paint job, be sure to mask your car off before you send it to them.
Oh, and it's the "pro 3" package I guess.

I had my first TII sprayed by them. Not bad for a really cheap paint job. But a few things i didnt like I.E orange peels up the ***, even in a really shiney day you will see it. Also if you have a TII i have noticed that there paint cant handle heat by the turbo area? Yea you will see in a few months what im talking about, if you go this route. I say save up and really think about what color you really want? and spend @ $1500.00 for a good paint..

Well it says my paint job cost $250 and it was called Pro 3. Maybe they changed there packaging deals.
It just pisses me off, the car has 72K miles, everything stock, immaculate interior, awesome body, and the owner has to go with a $250 paint job! And he was a lawyer!!

Why don't you just use a paint brush and do it yourself? Guys like you should drive something else.

In my opinion as a body shop owner (sorry never heard of this earl character)
anyone who lists "tack cloth cleaning" in a list to make it seem like an add-on is blowing smoke up your ***

Everything that he lists on that link is stuff that IS REQUIRED to paint a car - evenly cheaply - not to mention the fact that he skips a tonne of things.......and WTF is integrated clearcoat? that's bullshit - he means, cheap ******* paint.

you pay for what you get......and sometimes your lucky if you get what you pay for

LMAO..... if you need to have advice on going to Earl your in trouble. Well unless you wanted your car painted with water based paint. Or how about that special yellow primer ?

I have seen a few ES paint jobs. Most are just what you paid for 'Any car any color for $99.95" ...opps thats was back in the day.

They have paint guns and some body filler but thats about the extent of the quality of the work. Save yourself time and find a better shop. Bad paint jobs look terrible and if you have rust , look out they spread body filler like its Peanut butter.

No Earl Sheib

Don't take your car to earl sheib. i've heard stories of him just using bulldog adhesion promoter on unsanded paint. find a high school or a tech school in your area. They don't do too bad of a job (I'd recommend later in the school year so they have some experience over the year) and all it costs is the price of the materials. You'd be suprised how well those vocational students do.

Actually i have a friend with a corolla and a 4AGE turbo and he did all his prep work, sanded primered, sanded, primered, and a fine sanding, taped everything up (windows etc..) and had ES paint it and its still a nice white like before no peeling, but yeah you probably should just find a GOOD paint place and not go with Earl Schieb.

Did anyone click on the link I provided? If you have the time, you can do a "roll on" paint job with Rustoleum paint in a can. It's an acrylic enamel you can buy at Home Depot.

Prep the car with 80 grit sandpaper, then 100, then 200, finished with a 400, do all body work, and paint. After 2 coats (about 4hrs work for the whole car) wetsand with a 600, then do 2 more coats, wetsand with 800, 2 more coats and sand with a 1000-1500 and polish, followed by wax, done.

This car was done with a can of Rustoleum and a roller:

And this one:

You just have to take your time and it'll come out looking factory.

ES is crap.

I was quote a great price, but I was told I could only pick a color from their lineup. 75% of their colors had some type of glitter "bling factor" to it.

A buddy got his 2nd gen painted by them, and he soon became the laughing stock of the group. Paint on his intake manifold, wheels, muffler, headlights, and even on his windsheild.

Guess that's what you get for $300.

Edit: No wonder...both of those owners are Canadians...

I have an earl sheib job on my car

I went to pick it up 3 times and left without my car because they missed spots, had huge globs...

when I finally got it back from them it looked fine

little later the paint bubbled and they wouldnt take that under the 3 year waranty I had

I got the pro 3 (normally $500) on sale for 250

I also paid extra to have them sand it for me

I give them 2 thumbs down

Dudes, that paint roller post on that other board is amazing! I think i will have to try this some time. You know, i wouldnt be surpirzed if that Rustoleum paint is higher quality then a lot of 'auto paints' becasue they are a huge company and have invested so much research into developing a good product.

So, if I do all the prep, supply 6 times the paint required (12 quarts of HOK Tangelo Pearl, 6 half quarts of Pagan Gold kandy base, and 4 bottles of Orange Pearls) who do you recommend I take my FC to?
