Anybody made an attempt to wire up an iPod to their factory radio?

Someone on the RX8 forums made a chip to do it on their factory stereo (standard 2001+ Mazda stereo). That stereo has an expansion bay which could hold a tape deck, md deck, or this special chip.
Their stereo is built to be expandable... & it still needed a design expansion chip... so I'd think it'd be very hard to add an aux input on a stereo without an expansion bay...
