anybody done custom door speaker installs?
alright i need some advice from the audio guys...i have a set of 7" vifa midbasses i got from my friend for 35 bux that i wanna put in the door panels of my FC but ive run into a few problems. 1) these speakers are almost 3.5" deep and i dont think i can cut into the door much becuz of the glass 2) i have manual windows so theyll just clear the crank.
so anyone thats done custom door panel installs got any pics or advice? i really dont wanna have to get more expensive woofers that are shallower if i can get away with it (since these were cheap and are supposed to be good woofers).
let me know...thanx

Why do you want 7" midbass in your doors? Are you running a seperate amp just for those or are you making a special crossover for them. Remember that thing is only going to play mid frequencys, unless your going to match a tweeter to it. The average 8" speaker needs .4 cuft of space to do anything, your door will not even be close to that. Try just an componet set of speakers. 10-15 years ago people were trying to fit 8's and 10's in doors, now the biggest you see are 61/2's. The biggest draw back to such a large speaker is the depth, the magnet must be kinda big on that too. How much of your door are you willing to cut out?

I have a set of 7" Vifa's in the front doors of my CSVT along with some Vifa Neo tweets. They sound superb, although they are a bit power hungry. They have great mids and play down into the 50Hz range with authority.
Sorry, but I can't help you with advice on your install. Never seen the interior on an FC before.

Why don't you put them in the back hatch area, just above and to the side of the storage hatches? Run the X-over from 80-250Hz (or thereabouts) as mid-bass is fill anyhow and more omnidirectional than high freq's. That way you can still put in 5.25 (easiest) or 6.5's in the doors (with a lot of cutting and fabricating a baffle plate and a speaker pod) and have your mid-range there.
You could also try to fit them in the kickpod area but you will have to remove the foot rest to the side of the clutch to have room and they will become one with the plastic piece in that area or you will use it as a template and bolt into the metal frame behind it. Just make sure it is removeable in case you need to get behind there for the fuses.
