I am a firm believer in having a detailing shop do the initial cleaning. Call around and you will prolly get quotes from 25 - 75 depending on how much "detailing" you want done.
The last 2 times at different places it was $25 and took them, with a low pressure washer, @ 45 minutes - 1 hour. Here is the advantage. They have the proper equipment, know or are told what to cover (ignitors, altinator, and plug the air intake) and their shop floor get all the greese, grime, and dirt. Lacking a good washer, I bet you are lookng at 2 - 4 hours just to get the major filth off with a degreeser and multiple brushes. Don't forget to wash down your driveway.
Having it done allows you to spend that 2 - 4 hours detailing to the perfection you want along with a Dremil or OOOO steel wool shine on the metal.
Not lazy here but a tidge on the why should I get all wet and dirty when a few bucks passes it on.

Just cover all the main electronics, connectors and so on and take it to a pressure washer or use an air compressor with a pressure wash gun. Im going to buy one soon and wash mine, there like 40 bucks but you have to have a comressor of corse.
