Question Any tweeter ideas? Where to mount

Ok my question is for those that installed tweeters in there Fd where did you mount them? I know most of you guys mounted them on your door panels but I just purchased some nice looking ones and hate to drill holes in them. So for those that mounted them in a different area would you like posting a pic? Thanks guys

I have mounted them all over the car, for the best imaging (sound) they need to be placed in the a-pillar.

I have to agree with the a-pillar idea as well. And hell no I would not drill holes in my door panels anyways.

Arn't the stock tweeters mounted into the top of the dash? At least in the touring models, there is a small grill there that looks like a speaker grill. [EDIT, I guess that is some kind of "center speaker" that maybe substitutes for tweeters?]

Would it not be appropriate just to replace the center speaker with new high quality tweeters and point them in the right direction? That is what I was planning to do. If that is a bad idea, please let me know

^ That is a center channel speaker, I would definitely not put tweeters in that location it will throw off your entire sound stage.

If it changes your opinion at all, I was going to replace the head unit and all of the speakers. I was going to place mid-range speakers in the door panels, with the tweaters in the dash. Then, replace the bose snake with either rear speaker panels from a non-touring model (with most likely full range speakers) or with a sub in the trunk.

Given that the head unit would be replaced, would that still be a bad idea?

I haven't done it yet but always planned on mounting them the same as WHOOSH has pictured above.

head unit wont effect the placement of the tweeters unless it has at least a 10 band EQ and even at that point I don't think you could get them to sound right.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt, I am a hardcore audiophile so I have very high expectations for what sounds great.

I just understood that the stock head unit only puts out certain frequencies to certain of the speakers. So, I thought that your problem with my suggested setup (the tweeters in the center channel) might be due to the frequencies being sent to those speakers, and not how the placement of tweeters in the dash would sound. Therefore, I was just clarifying that I was going to get a new head-unit to make sure the right frequencies were going to the right speakers.

However, I think I am understanding you correctly that you simply think the placement of tweeters in the center channel location would not sound right, and that you would greatly prefer the doors?

Thanks for the help!

No. All he's saying, Is that the tweeters will sound bad in that location. It will sound "off" and harsh even with a new head unit due to location of the tweeters.. It's like placing the tweeters by a 12in woofer. It will just sound "off."

I've also mounted mine on the A-pillars. I wouldn't ever put them in the door panels. You'll ruin the panels
