Any good opinions on upgrading the lighting on an FD with either good bulbs or one of the numerous HID packages out there

I have read a lot about the correct temperatures that are conducive to our eys and why, correct cutoff and how just tossing a bulb that is brighter doesn’t necessarily mean better lighting…..

But putting all these things into consideration, what is the best direction to go in with the equipment that is available, if keeping the stock popups is a nonflexible condition?

Is it necessary or do you find it beneficial/ necessary IYO from those that have the hi/lo setups? for me it would be very important...

Are there any HID setups out there that are more “OEM” as in they don’t just have some guy practically selling them out of the back of his car never to be seen again when users need parts or servicing ect….

Is anyone making a comparable cutoff to the engineered optics I have read about with a plug in bulb solution?

And what is the most complete package out there if I don’t want to be blinding people yet want a updated lighting system?

Any help and or informative links that are FD popup specific that can help lead me to a good package?

That is true. But, if you toss in a brighter bulb AND adjust your beam pattern it will be better. IMO, if you are sticking with pop-ups, a brighter bulb like the Sylvania Silverstars is a good upgrade as well as adjusting your beam patter after installing the bulbs.

It kills me how some people go out of their way for HID's. People drove cars at night long before there was HID and they didn't have problems (me being one of them).

Sylvania Silverstars and adjusting your headlights worked great for me. Also what I did was cleaned the housings really good and used some kind of polish on them and now they look brand new.

I have read alot of good feedback from the silverstars.

I picked up a set of those “diamond cut lenses” that are floating around now.

The optics do not look that refined. Even the back of the bulb reflector has exceptionally rough and very poorly chrome plated surface, where you would think they would spend a bit more time to keep it reflective.

I am thinking maybe that’s the wrought I should go, give those silverstars a shot and see if I cant improve on the optics of these things somehow or maybe just stick with cleaned up stock lights.

Wondering if anyone has been down this road and can give some specific advice as to which setup works the best from extensive testing and consideration?

I would not use those cheap ebay diamond cut housings but that's just me. I have sylvania silverstars on my FC and they are nice, bright and white.
I do want to get some 4300K (OEM bright white) or 5000K HIDs. Probably from Kaixen, they are a reputable name brand with a pretty good warrenty.

Here is a comparison thread you may want to look at
