Any experienced body shop persons??

This weekend an SUV did some damage to my rear quarter panel. So far, the body shops that have looked at it just want to pull out the dents, apply a"thin layer" on filler, and repaint the panel. I am pretty sure that is what the insurance company is also going to want to pay for.

I don't really like this idea. I am the original owner of the car and it is in very good condition. I want it returned to the condition before the incident. Therefore, I think that the rear quarter panel should be replaced.

Any opinions???

you want to keep the panel if at all possible, especially it being a quarter which is welded on. You think the process sounds involved now, how about tearing it off, welding a new piece in, and then repainting the whole panel...possibly up to the roof, blending into the door and over into the hatch/spoiler area.

yea they would cut the panel behind the window and then replace the panel below that and blend it in. thats the problem about an accident, the paint is never going to match or fade the same as the paint from ten years ago. stupid suv drivers.

Thanks for the advice.

I think that I have found a shop that will do the work properly. They have been in business for 50 years and work on Ferraris, BMWs, Benzs, and Rolls. They were also the only body shop that knew the paint was not clear coated and said that they do not use Bondo and would have do a lot of painting to get it right. Hopefully, everything will get fixed properly.

Again, thanks for the help.
