TN Any Amateur radio operators with equipment in their 7?

I only have a hand-held I use, but when I get a 7 I wouldn't mind putting a mobile in there. I'm not much of a music radio guy so I could easily see myself swapping out the factory radio for a mobile setup.

i dont have a CB in my 7 but i do have one in my truck (mazda b3000)

few things
1. look around you should be able to find a single din CB (most of them are single din or smaller) this way you can drop in an after market deck and still run a CB.

2. im sure you know this but you need a good ground plane for the antenna. in my truck i mounted mine between the bed and the cab right on the frame rails im running a 8 ft whip and i get great reception. with the FD im not too sure where the best place to put the antenna would be, back 1/4 panel or maybe on the hatch? my guess would be a 4 or 5 ft whip with a good coil on the bottom would be your best bet here.

3. the other option you have which is much more complex than just a single whip antenna would be running multiple antennas co-phased, depending on the frequencies ect your planning on running this would be doable seeing as the body of the car is one giant ground plane for you you would just need to calculate the distances for each of the antennas and figure out how long of ones you wanted to use. its been done before but its very complicated.

Not in my 7 but have a Yaesu 857 in the daily driver, it's a nice radio and much easier to install a radio that has a seperate head unit as the main body can go nearer to the battery and it doesn't take up as much room around the dash. My head unit is actually mounted in a cell phone mount stuck to the windshield.

You need to get on HF, we might make contact one day.
