amps / speakers question
i have heard it is better to OVERpower speakers than to underpower them -- for instance if i put in new 6.5 inch speakers in the door that run at 65 watts rms and a 6 in bazooka sub that has two coils running 50 watts rms each should i buy a 4 channel amp that runs 50 watts rms at 4 ohms to each part of my system or would i be better off buy 2 amps and using one to power my component speakers at 100 watts rms each and my sub at 100 watts rms each
do you understand what i am sayin?

You make sence. Its all about distortion. It is what kills the speaker, not over powering it. When your amps clipping because your pushing it to try and make your speakers sound good+blown speaker. Ask installers (I used to do it) You install amps and speakers with the right gain set on the amps. The guy comes back and has blown speakers because he said it was not loud enough, so he turned the gain all the way up.

thanks john -- i listen to alot of rap and other loud bass music all the way up so i think that i will go for the 1 amp set-up (easier to install and keep hidden) and just keep most of my amp settings in the midrange -- plus its just like a $90 sub so who gives a **** if i blow it out right?
btw -- i looked at your car domain site -- very thourough -- i like your car alot GREAT WORK man!!! im a little scared to do all of that work myself this weekend i flushed the radiator but didn't get the coolant out of the enigine block because the drain plug wsa wayyy to hard to get off -- but your page gave me some ideas on what i need to do to my car still..
