Amp to Battery
+ = red

keep it that way!
If you are talking about a car audio amp install, your gonna need heavy guage wire, and a inline fuse within 12 inches of the battery. You will only need to run a + wire from amp to battery, you can ground (-) the amp to any good clean ground anywhere in the car. (most amp kits usually come with 16-18 feet of + wire, and 2-4 of - wire, and your remote wire, Audio cables, and fuses.
maybe www.crutchfield.com has what you need?

I ask this because i've seen several different stereo battery terminals with both positive and negative symbols. I've also read to disconnect the negative end first for charging or just unhooking the battery. Why?
You disconnect the negative cable because it's much better to make/remake the connection with the negative. If you make/remake the connection with the positive, you may get a spark/jolt/large hair-removing explosion.
