The only problem with painting is scratches. I tried painting, didn't like it after a while. I like Gordon's interior. Painting is also a must if you are going to re-arrange like Gordon.
My kit came from Dashkit.net It is an ultragloss aluminum kit. Yes there is real aluminum on the bottom between the silicone type top and the sticky stuff. The best thing about the kit is the resistance to scratches. Gordon is right about the sticking. The Dashkit.net kit is very sticky and once its on will not come off but it takes quite a bit of patience. One screw up and you will hate yourself. Some kits come off, bad glue - not a problem for me.
Ow, If you do decide to get a kit I highly recommend sanding down the flake plastic cover from the plastic. Once sanded smooth coat with a high gloss polyuerthane.
Cheers,
Chris
