To all who have painted their ac panel

When you painted your ac surround panel, what did you do about the little inserts that are around the actual *****? They are glued in with some sort of what looks like a black sticky tape, and I don't think I should attempt to remove these.

Did you tape them off, or do you just have to remove them? Is so, what did you use to mount them back into place after you were finished? I need to soak it in purple power, so I was wondering if doing this will make the sticky stuff fall apart as well and they just end up having to come off regardless.

I pulled them off and then reattached them with a little glue:

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured, so I already jerked them off, I mean took them off.
