Aftermarket Reciever Q's

I have an '85 with the factory tape deck, radio and eq. I was wondering if I could take out the radio and tape deck, put in a double din sized cd reciever, and run it through the factory eq to my speakers. I dont know if it would fit. Also, I do NOT want ANY subs, they make the sound completely unbalnaced and sound like sh*t for any music other than rap, which I also dont like.

You will most likely have no luck using the factory eq.
Why not just get a HU with equalizing functions? And I think the opening is a bit larger than double din, so you'll need a fit kit anyway.

I would say you have never heard an sq setup, if you think a sub unbalances the sound. I agree, street punks run mad power to the subs, but they aren't really listening to their music, anyway, they're making a statement (and blowing their ear drums).

Figure at least $1000 if you want to have decent sound in your car. I was in mine on the way to work this morning, thinking it sounded nearly as nice as my $2000 home setup.

$200-300 HU
$300-400 Speakers
$300-800 Amplifiers
$100-200 Misc cables and stuff.

It doesn't come cheap, but you spend hundreds of hours in the car, so it's an investment. And obviously a cd player is going to help immensely. The radio and a 17 year old cassette deck can hardly be considered pure sources.
