ack, how do I get these bugs off?

I have a lot of bug spatter absolutely WELDED to the front of my car, I tried bug remover, nothing is working. My next thing to try is to drape a wet towel on the nose of the car for a day or two to try and soften them but I have my doubts. Any tips?

Hey Tom,

It's Brad...I don't know if you remember me or not but I was the guy that sat at the same table with you and Holly and my wife at the DGRR banquet. We got to talking about motorcycles and I told you I had a Ducati 748 and I think you said you used to own a CBR900 or something. Anyway, just wanted to say..what's up? And sometimes I use a "Tint-Safe" glass cleaner like Rain-X Glass Cleaner...yes, that's right, a glass cleaner. I use Tint-Safe glass cleaners to clean the bugs off the front of my bikes and my cars. After I spray it on and wipe the bugs off, I then go back over the area with a damp wet warm cloth just to remove any chemicals that haven't been tested safe for paint. <--It's really just a "Just in case" deal. Hey, if it will take the bugs off your windshield then why not your paint?? After all that, I then use an Eagle One detailing mist to bring out the shine.

Brad

Sure I remember you; hope you had a good time at the DGRR and a nice ride home. I was afraid to use any glass cleaner because I used some windex on a helmet once and it dulled the paint, but the tint safe stuff makes sense. Are you going to the mitty at Road Atlanta? if so I'll probably see you there, but at this point I'm not sure which day I'm going (probably Sunday)

Thanks for the tip

Tom

Well, I have tried two products in the past with vastly different rates of success for cleaning off caked on bugs.

The first is genuine Nissan Bug and Tar remover. I bought it at my local nissan dealer when I owned a Nissan a while back. The stuff worked AWESOME. I could not belive how good of a job it did. It came in a small white can with a screw on lid.

The second on is Stoner Tarminator. I tried it a couple of weeks ago (as I've been very impressed with the the Stoner Invisible Glass) and was extremely disappointed. Compared to the Nissan bug and tar remover, the Stoner Tarminator is just rubbish and not worth the can it is sold in.

Hope that helps!

I got some tint safe glass cleaner and it got even the baked on bugs that were on so good I had to wax over them in the past! the stuff worked great. I used Castrol Super Clean on the soot on the rear bumper and it worked very well, but there is still a little bit of a strange look to the clearcoat there so maybe it is from just after having the car painted and getting some soot on there before I was allowed to wax it. I also need to re wax the bumper so maybe that will clear it up.
thanks for all the tips

dont need all that... glass cleaners have acidic chemicals in it which could start to eat away clear coat and or paint within a few uses. "genuine nissan" bug and tar remover is no different from off the counter bug and tar removers made by the big brands like MOthers and Meguiars. if off the counter bug and tar sprays dont work you can try clay bar. it can basically remove anything that doesnt belong on paint/clearcoat including over spray and fall out (yes thats little micro peices of metal in the air that causes rust on your paint over time). you can try the off the coutner Mothers california clay bar kit which is a good starter kit. if you like to learn more on claybar or w/e you can check out www.autopia.org and click "LEARN" and if you have questions you can ask in the forum (click "discuss")
