Thumbs up Breakthrough Leather Seat Restoration !!!

Greetings Rotorheads,

A close friend of mine runs a shop that just purchased a $30k + Leather Restoration System by Lexus. This system is state of the art and unique from any other system out there. After stripping and prepping the seat, a paint system designed by Lexus is sprayed on. The paint used by this system is what sets it apart. When it dries............it dries soft as new leather !!! I Lexoled my seats and can truly say that it's the closest thing to new. He swore to me that he could bring my 2 Tan leather touring seats back to nearly NEW condition and he wasn't B.S'ing.

My seats were like most other FD owners. 90% + passenger seat.......with a 30%, dogged out drivers seat and they both came out about as close as you can get to new !!

My car is currently in the shop for some work........who's isn't I'll get pics. up asap.

I wouldn't post this if I didn't think it would be an asset to our Rotary Community. Mods. if this post is out of line, please pm me.

If anyone is interested please pm me and I'll fwd: you my guy's contact info.

Not sure, you'll have to talk it over with him. I'm guessing ballpark is $150 - $200 per seat.

My drivers side bolter was shot to hell and you cannot even see where the wear went.

Price seems kinda high.

I'd rather just buy bucket seats.

Depending on the owner I suppose.

I'm eventually going for that "cockpit" look and feel inside the car.

Yea, if he expects to get some business, that price is going to be kind of high. The reason being that people can get new leather skins for about $200 per seat. He'll have to be in the $100-$150 range to sway people into a service like that.

This is just an option for those who want to restore their OEM seats. Of course there are other options in the similar price range ie bucket seats, etc.. It's all up to the individual. I wanted to keep the stock look so I went with the restoration.

My seat cushions including the bolster area were not in that bad of shape and were re-used. As for pricing, I agree that it should be it should be $150 max, but then again, that's between you and my guy. I don't know what his costs are etc.... I am just passing along the word.

I just priced new leather from Mazda, not Malloy, last week.....
Leather -
Upper, center section X2 @$550/each
Upper, bolsters X2 @$575/each

Just curious, because I was at the dealership buying something else so I priced out some things I need and the total came to ~$2300 for everything I need!

I think its $550 for each seat cover. Thats just high enough to make me think about getting some aftermarket seats. The photos from the RX7.com site of the seats looks good but the leather looks a little puckered. Could be the foam is worn out also. Now to have a seat cover installed , and foam replaced...wow just buy a new seat or a set of aftermarket ones.

I believe they are reselling Leatherseats.com covers (which would be $550 for both). Here is a shot of a direct replacement from Leatherseats.com (not my car, but I will be using their covers soon):

Now, they do custom work so some people have gotten the suede inserts or two tone, etc..

Pretty neat! BTW, most factory seats are done in this fashion - the leather actually has a surface coating sprayed on. When you see the cracking, it's actually the surface coating cracking.

A long time ago on the FC3S list, someone restored their seats with some sort of leather paint/coating, and it turned out killer.

I have been talking to Bill @ Leatherseats for almost a month now. I guaranteed him a sale, *if* we can match the stock leather color that the 93's came with. I have perfect bottoms, so no need to buy the entire cover. We will see when he sends me some swatches to match up.

Other then my unique circumstance, both options listed in this thread are great.

Rajeev, you are actually not that far from my guy who's offering this service. He is located in Orlando, FL and can match your stock color hands down. I gaurantee you'll be satisfied. Give him a shout and see what he can do for you. He may be willing to cut you a deal..........or not. See what he says.

His name is David Biggers and his # is 407-448-9271 (Cell). Call him and let him know that I refered you to him.

Thanks Ted,

I will. It may possibly even be the same Lexus Dealer my brother bought his SC300 from.
