Question ? about replica bumpers finish

I just recieved mine for $200+ shipping. Great price for 99 replica.
But here's the deal. Edges are rough all around, especially around the lights. Will need work to mold it better, also around the hood meets the bumper,it's slightly wavey, and the sides of the bumper looks like it needs to be sanded to make it look smooth.Looks like over wrapping,Some scratches that would be seen around big opening for the radiator. Should i complain to the company or just deal with it and pay a shop to finish the product. i don't know if these shops sell these type of products rough, so they can sell it at a cheaper price. Anybody have the same problems?

That's exactly it...you get what you pay for. Funny, though, how it all usually works out to be the same price...either $900 for the real thing or $200 for a replica + $700 to get it to look like the real thing. Eh, there's no use in complaining - it won't get you anywhere

Where did you get it from, Extreme D or Importfan? They always come like that, I deal with them on a regular basis. You might wanna call them up though, and tell them it doesnt fit, maybe you get lucky. A customer of mine had complained and they ended up sending them another kit... But thatll be pretty much the same quality. Bottom line you get what you pay for.

I totally agree with you get what you pay for,but cross your fingers and hope. I'm just sharing my experience with other and was wondering if this is the case for most replicas. I still won't be near $900 rage. I have it at the shop now, and i was quoted $500 total= prep work, painted, and mounted with 99 blinkers into the stock rebar. But i see other kits on ebay, from a picture look pretty dam good. But the one i got has hardly and nice flowing edges. I kind of already new it would be rough, but was hoping for alittle better cond, than what i recieved. I kind of made this post to show that you get what you pay for, and to see if there are some other people with better results or worse condtions with their $200 front end.

I wouldn't always agree with the get what you pay for idea. I have a set of Apexi sideskirts that I got from SR motorsports many years ago, I had to wait for about 6 weeks for Ray Lockhead to get mine from Japan. When I finally got them they needed many hours of prep work from the body shop and the shop had to repaint them 2 times to get all the waves out of the fiberglass. I have also purchased replica's( ie Scoot hood from Rotary Extreme.) although it wasn't perfect, the same shop that did my sideskirts commented on how much better the quality of the hood was over the fiberglass sideskirts. (my hood is also fiberglass) So, often times it seems to be the luck of the draw. I may be an exception rather than the rule, however.

Art...very true. Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't.

I believe you get what you pay for w/ RotaryExtreme's replicas (which is good) and ImportFan (which is not good lol)

And then there are the odd-***** out... like your experience...

I've read many a thread about how they sprang extra dough for original parts, and fitment was really bad...

But on the flipside of the coin, I gotta say sometimes it works for you. VIS Racing's polyfiber kits are practically DIRT cheap and are incredible quality and fitment...

Oh and one more thing. I can't judge or speak ill of your body guy, but I'll tell you he didn't do the best job if he painted the peice before sanding it down enough to get all the waves out...cuz you're not supposed to just paint and repaint till it don't show... you're supposed to sand and prep until you get all the waves out, THEN paint... (it's amazing how much you can pick up by hanging around professional body work guys for just a few min every few weeks or so)

I'm honestly not exactly sure what you're asking...

I don't think VIS Racing makes a Scoot replica hood...

But their body kits in *polyfiber* (and I stress polyfiber...i have no opinion on their fiberglass products) are EXCELLENT. simply astounding...

I looked all over for a urethane c west kit, and couldn't find one...then I came across the polyfiber products from VIS by accident...tried it out (was the first one at that lol) and man was I impressed. Stuff flexes a lot like urethane, but is *much* lighter, and is fixable like fiberglass. Fitment was great too, granted a lot of that had to do w/ the ability of the material to flex.
I personally wouldn't go any other way...

The polyfiber is avaiable via special order only, so you'll hafta wait a few weeks (a month or 2). I think your biggest concern would be shipping, seeing that you're in Greece. I'd talk w/ Grant at VIS, and let him know you're in Greece..and see if they can ship your stuff directly to you from the manufacturer, vs. havin it go to Cali first then get shipped to you in Greece...

Yeah, luck O' the draw sometimes. As for the body shop, it's actually one of the best shops in the midwest for custom hot rods and custom trucks, I know he sanded first but with the Mazda red it's a hard enamel paint and you get no clear coat, therefore the final product MUST be PERFECT. Usually w/ a clearcoat you can tell if there are waves in the paint before the clear coat you can touch up and wet sand it back smooth then apply the clear. These guys are really good, they just had some problems without having a clearcoat to help mask some imperfections. But I'm with ya all the way, get what ya pay for!

I mentioned before I deal with Importfan and Extreme D. at work, however for an RX7 Id NEVER buy anything from them. I mean come on guys we dont drive Civics here, we cant just throw anything on our cars.
Also these companies only sell a few RX7 kits/hoods/wings/accessories thats why everything is hard to get and the quality isnt inspected thouroghly every time. They dont change their molds too often because theyll only sell maybe a few kits a month. For the "popular imports" these cheap replica body kit molds are changed all the time and you actually get pretty good fitting products.

I also deal with VIS Racing too and I had met a few guys from them at SEMA. When I saw their new polyurathane products I was sold in no time. Amazing quality at a great price! If anyone wants a C-West replica I believe thats the way to go!
