99 Spec Front Chin Lip

99 Spec Front Chin Lip
Question - has anyone installed the '99 Spec Front Chin Lip on a FD?
I've recently installed one on my '94 and don't like the look because the '99 lip doesn't match up exactly with the '94 bumper. The '99 lip "sticks out" too much underneath the air intakes, causing the lip to look a bit strange. I dunno, maybe I'm too picky.
Has anyone encountered this and if so, what have you done to improve the look? Anyone with pictures?
Thanks.

mine fit alright around the front, stuck out a hair in places. but was too long by about an inch right in front of the tire. is that what your talking about? you can see how it is not lined up with the fender here.

I'm not referring to the part that stickes out by the tires. I'm referring to the fit of the lip on the left and right side of each air intake on the front bumper. Would include a pic but my car is at the tuners having final work done on the AEM ECU.
In your picture, I'm talking about the part of the lip that is to the immediate right of the air scoop on the lip itself. On my part, you can easily tell that the lip is not meant for a '94 FD bumper because a triangular piece of the lip that should be hidden is exposed. This is on both the right and left side of my car.
I may be ****, but all websites that sell this part list it as OEM (to me this means it will fit) and basically an easy install with slight screw hole mods.
Would be interested in close up pics of the lip in the locations described above.

i know where you are saying. mine doesnt stick out too much there because i pushed it back so the front would be ok, but it made the sides worse. im done with mine, cause i got a new bumper, but i do know what u mean about the sites saying it was oem. i was dissapointed with the fitament too. i would take pictures but my car is at the body ship. good luck. -steve

The lip IS OEM, it's just for the 99 front bumper which is slightly obviously different than the 93-95 bumper. The R1/R2 lip obviously fits better but it also costs a lot more than the 99 spec lip. The 99 spec lip will not fit perfectly with the older bumper no matter what you do but you can adjust it so it's pretty close.

your right. i'm aware it is oem. what i meant to say was when i ordered it they said it would take some modification to make it bolt up. i wasnt told that the contour of the 99 spec front bumper was different than that of 93-95.

Thats just something you have to live with.
When you install, you have to drill a couple extra holes (as you know) and you have to make a tradeoff between how much of those little edges (by the oil cooler intake) as opposed to how much of the back of the lip hangs into the fender well. The little edges take alot of muscleing to get rid of....

Thanks for all of the posts. I appreciate the insight and I'll readjust the lip and make a determination if I keep it or try something else.
Question - if there anything else besides the R1 lip that makes the front end look more agressive while keeping a "stock" look about the car? I know alot of cool kits exist, but I have tried to make sure the car remains looking pretty close to stock. You know, a "wolf in sheep"s clothing" although the sotck FD is no sheep by any means!
