99 spec fd bumper question

hey guys

i heard somewhere online that you can fit a 99 spec fd front bumper to an earlier model fd without the use of the 99 spec bumper bar

is this true?

if so if there anything that needs to be done to make it fit correctly eg. modification?

thanks

Many people on the forum have re-used there old 93 rebar with the 99 spec bumper. From what I've heard, it sags over time.

I have a 99 spec bumper along with a 99 spec rebar. I went with the rebar because I couldn't be bothered to trim ****. Everything fit like a glove with the 99 spec rebar and bumper.

Others i'm sure will chrime in shortly

I think the main issue was that you have to cut up the 93 rebar to make the 99spec turnsignal's fit.

You have to either:

-NOT use any rebar
-Modify your US rebar
-Purchase a 99 rebar

All of which will let you use the 99 spec bumper.

I went the NO rebar route. After a little over a year, i have experienced ZERO problems.

my cars a jap model 1993

are these different to the us models in terms of different rebars etc?

is it a big/difficult job to modify the older rebar to fit the newer bumper?

just want to know the best way to go about doing the conversion as its on my to do list

Sorry, i meant to say 93-95 bumper, not US.

Yes you can use your existing rebar and modify it. All you're basically doing is boring out the turn signal holes so the 99spec signals can fit. Everything else is the same.

If you dont want to do any work, buy a 99 rebar which i believe is around 500 bucks or dont run one at all.

Like i said i didnt run one and im fine.

I think you should run a rebar either if it's 93-95 or 99+. It is their to support the bumper nicely and also for added safety.

AFAIK, The only functional difference between the 93 and 99 rebar, except for the the size of the holes for the turn signals.

99 spec rebar

I have the 99 spec bumper and lights, havent put it on my car yet, but I was looking at some pics, the 99 spec rebar has a license plate part that clearly would stick in the bumper (thereby providing more support), the 93 oem does not have a license plate, which means it would not give the same support?

Anyone have a pic of a 93 oem rebar? vs the 99?

Thanks
