88 rx7 vert door speaker subwoofer option help please?

hi, i have an 88 rx7 vert that has what looks like a s-video cable instead of the wiring for the door speakers. i did some research on it and all i found out was that its apparently called a subwoofer option that could've been added on in 88'. what i need to know if anybody could help me is if this is true and is there some type of adapter that i can get for it or anything else i could do to get the speakers to work besides running new speaker wires? i really want to get this fixed to drive again soon because the 2 5" speakers in the dash wont last long themselves plus everything sounds really flat.

Are you still using the factory headunit? If not, it probably is pointless to use that cable which probably won't connect properly to your new headunit. Besides, it probably doesn't carry an amplified signal to the speaker.
