88' factory stereo system problem!!!
88' factory stereo system problem!!!
i recently got a 88' vert, but the factory stereo is pretty bad.. When i turn it on, the left speaker turns on and off depending on a bump or just for random cause (prolly to **** me off)... and the radio station- for ex: 100.3FM thingy wont show up, (fuse or lights out?) anyways.. does anyone know how to fix the sound flickering problem?
if i was to change the whole stock radio and get a new stereo put in, would cost a lot?- do you think that'll fix my flickering problem or should i just go to a auto-sound/radio place to get it checked out?

To fix the stock deck/radio as you describe, you will be looking at about $150 USD to $200 USD plus R+R (remove and replace) charges.
Unless you are trying for a concourse edition or have a AE it would not be cost effective to keep the stock radio. Just replace it.

2nd gen cars are notorious for electrical problems. I don't remember the details exactly, but I think the intermittent speakers has to do with the amplifiers. Each speaker has it's own amplifier (very low wattage).
If you have some extra cash, I recommend getting a new stereo installed, and run speaker wires from the new deck directly to the speakers, bypassing the amplifiers.
Many places now have free installation with purchase. This may actually be cheaper than having a shope try to figure out whats wrong, and then fix it!
