87 SE Door Speakers

My 87SE only came with speakers in the rear towers and the little 4's in the dash. I have a pair of 5 1/4" RF coaxials id like to put in my doors. Obviously, I have a bit of work to do if i want to mount speakers in my doors that are currently absent of speakers! I know someone has done this.. any advice or suggestions on exactly where/how to mount the speakers would be greatly appreciated.

i havent done it, but ive had my door panels off a lot. you dont need to make plates, just to make a hole in the door panel. if you search for door speakers there are a few pics around.

just mounted the drivers side speaker.. its only mounted to the door panel itself.. should i mount it to the steel as well? also, should i run the new speaker wire through the same rubber hose thing that the rest of the wires in the door go through?

yes, to both, after time the weight of the speaker might pull it out of the carboard like matterial of the door panels, and if its not going through the rubber boot you door might cut it and short out the connection, thats what the boot it for.

The stock speaker size is 5 1/4"... IMO the stock door speaker covers look great. Better than just hacking up the door. Plus they mount in the stock location so it looks cleaner. Here are some pics... just go tear off your door panel to see if you have the right hole to mount up the speaker on.

yeah, all the doors on FC's were stamped from the same mold.. i definitely have that whole in the steel. i do not have, however, what is shown in your first picture.. does that act as a case for the speaker? does it enclose it from where the window is? also, if i used that "case" on the inside of the door, would i have to use the speaker cover on the outside? i think the rockford grilles match my grey interior nicely.. but yeah, im interested in whether or not it give the speaker any protection in the door.

i already mounted my drivers side speaker, but it looks like i mounted it exactly at the stock location, so the whole in the panel wont show. PM me with the info and a price.
